Preventing Accidental Window Kills with SUPER+W

This guide shows you how to add a simple confirmation step: most apps still close instantly, but for selected ones you’ll need to press SUPER+W twice within 3 seconds.

Step 1: Create the Close Confirmation Script

Save the script somewhere. A good convention is ~/.local/bin/close-confirmation.sh.

Make it executable:

chmod +x ~/.local/bin/close-confirmation.sh

Step 2: Update Hyprland Bindings

Edit your Hyprland bindings configuration in ~/.config/hypr/bindings.conf.

First, unbind the default shortcut:

unbind = SUPER, W

Then add a new binding pointing to your script. Use the full absolute path (since ~ is not expanded in Hyprland configs):

bindd = SUPER, W, Close active window, exec, /home/your-user/.local/bin/close-confirmation.sh

Finding Application Class Names

To configure which applications require confirmation:

1. Focus the application window
2. Run: hyprctl activewindow -j | jq -r '.class'
3. Add the returned class name to the CONFIRM_APPS array in your script

Reqarding the last part I couldn't run hyprctl activewindow -j | jq -r '.class' while i was focused on my firefox window ( replace firefox with whaterver app you are trying to find ), so I did sleep 2 && hyprctl activewindow -j | jq -r '.class' while i had my mouse over firefox to see its name
