Replace Chromium with Brave Origin #6534

If this is ever taken into consideration, I'd also point towards LibreWolf replacing Firefox. Could be better to just add a "Privacy" subsection to the Omarchy browser menu for any user with concerns. Privacy Browsers

Omarchy is not for those who value privacy to the first place. This distro is designed to make most people feel comfortable. For example, Librewolf clears the data after shutdown, its very inconvenient (but helpful) Brave Origin is already added to the install-browsers list, i think it should be incremented by LibreWolf, Firefox Developer Edition and Tor. But, in my opinion, replacing chromium with Brave Origin is already too much. Chromium is great starting point. |

would maintainers consider a pr making brave origin the default for fresh installations only, preserving existing users’ browser choices? i’m willing to implement and test the installation and integration changes. Every omarchy user should get worldclass ad blocking out of the box, by default |

From what I know, Omarchy is meant to be an opinionated version of Arch Linux, pre-configured by DHH. Most decisions for the out-of-the box install are (from what I know) just what DHH prefers and uses for his daily driver. Stuff like the defaults menu are really just there for people who don't agree with some of his choices. This change probably won't even be considered, as some of DHH's other choices for defaults don't exactly scream privacy freak. |
Uh oh!

Brave Origin is a minimalistic version of the Brave browser that uses the core Chromium engine and Brave Shields for built-in ad and tracker blocking while removing additional features such as Leo, News, Rewards, Wallet/Web3, VPN, Tor, and telemetry. It is designed for users who want Brave's privacy protections without the bundled extras. Compared with Chromium, Brave Origin has better privacy and ad blocking out of the box. It is available free for Linux.
