A few months ago I did a big experiment with nix and I really did love it. I won't be using nix though. I just can't shake a feeling that certain things about nix, for example giving up the FHS even with the workarounds that exist, just make things harder than they have to be all the time because the system is immutable. If the whole world developed things assuming systems were immutable it would be really great, but it's not the world we live in and it just ends up creating friction when all I want to do is install a piece of software (or update my flake which is ssslllowwwww). Instead I personally have my RC files and it get repo and some custom tools that I built or had a eye help me build over the last 15 years that unstow my RC files and parse a toml of all the packages I would want on a new system. The script to declaratively goes through all the packages and setups etc as well. It's crude, it's impure, it's buggy, it's not nix. But once the system is up and running there's no friction. That all said I think that this project is a good idea, just please don't make me have to rewrite all of my config and nix and deal with all that stuff when I already have a perfectly good working solution, so I think we should think of a way that let's all work everyone's already done just work and be transparent to it and be able to link at runtime. It would be really cool to see this flavor officially supported as Omanix. I might have picked it. |

Omarchy — vendored for NixOS, with its menus rewired to Nix instead of pacman.
Omarchy 4.x is not a dotfiles repo, it is an application: 429 shell commands, a QuickShell desktop shell, 22 themes, and Hyprland configured through the Lua API introduced in 0.55. Nixarchy packages that tree as a derivation and replaces the parts that assume Arch, rather than reimplementing it in Nix.
Tracking an upstream release is a source bump, not a re-port. Can be found here: https://olafkfreund.github.io/nixarchy/
