Enhancement: Ability to update messages fron JS

I maintain a web chat product and would love to replace the front-end with chatkit but our current product has a voice mode. When voice mode is enabled we read the STT and update the chat window as a record of what is being said on the voice call.

I don't see anyway to make that work with the current api. It would be great if you exposed some methods to let us control adding user and assistant messages without triggering any requests.

If you use a custom backend, you could simply add the messages to your backend thread object, then call fetchUpdates on the client it it'll re-pull the current thread from your backend, displaying the new messages.

We'll consider this, but we'd probably want to do almost the reverse of what is suggested above, add the state on the client, then lazily sync it back to your backend.

Thanks for the suggestion. We receive the event in the browser so not sure how much latency this will add but will give it a try.
