Couple models with external data

We have a model of glucose and insulin dynamics that relies on external diet data to perturb the system. It would be great to extend the newly added external data feature and enable users to couple models with external time-series data.

Thanks for creating this issue, this has indeed always been the intention. (Not sure why there wasn't already an issue for it!)
