Visualizing geospatial data just got a lot easier!

I’m excited to share the new GeoLibre Chrome extension. It scans the webpage you are viewing, finds supported geospatial datasets, and lets you choose multiple files to open together in GeoLibre.

Click the GeoLibre icon, filter the results by vector or raster, select the datasets you want, and open them on one map.

The extension recognizes:

• GeoJSON and spatial JSON
• GeoParquet and Parquet
• PMTiles
• GeoTIFF and Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFF
• ZIP archives containing GeoJSON
• JSON-LD download metadata
• Existing GeoLibre data links

It also has dedicated support for Source Cooperative. Even when a large repository page only renders the files currently visible on screen, the extension reads the embedded inventory so you can browse all supported datasets in that directory.

Privacy was a priority: the extension runs only when you click it, requests access only to the active tab, and does not store browsing history or send analytics.

The extension is open source and available today as a manual Chrome installation. Chrome Web Store publishing is planned next.

Interesting work on the GeoLibre Chrome Extension. The combination of a browser extension with a web-based interface provides a lightweight way to access geospatial tools without requiring a full desktop installation.

From a technical perspective, it would be valuable to know more about the current architecture regarding data catalog integration and performance with larger datasets. Supporting additional standards or catalogs (such as STAC, OGC API, or regional open data portals) could significantly expand the extension’s usefulness for both research and operational use cases.

Any information on the roadmap for expanded catalog support or advanced layer management would be appreciated.

Well-designed Chrome extension. The ability to scan a webpage, detect supported geospatial datasets, and open multiple files directly in GeoLibre is a practical improvement for daily workflows.

Support for GeoJSON, GeoParquet, PMTiles, GeoTIFF/COG, and Source Cooperative integration covers many common use cases. Looking forward to seeing how catalog and format support expands in future releases.
