Welcome to the Open Modeling Foundation RFCs

Welcome! This repository is where the Open Modeling Foundation (OMF) develops standards and governance through an open Request for Comments (RFC) process.

If you have an idea for improving computational modeling practice, documentation, interoperability, or OMF itself, we'd love to hear it.

What belongs here?

Use Discussions to:

• Propose and explore new ideas before writing an RFC.
• Ask whether an idea needs an RFC.
• Share related work or prior art.
• Ask questions about the RFC process.
• Provide early feedback on developing standards.

Once an idea has matured, it can be proposed formally as an RFC through a pull request.

Current Focus

Our initial effort is developing the first OMF standard:

OMF Standard 1: Model Documentation

This standard aims to provide a clear, implementation-independent way for modelers to communicate computational models, making them easier to understand, reproduce, compare, and extend.

We welcome contributions from researchers, software developers, practitioners, educators, and anyone interested in improving how computational models are documented and shared.

How to Participate

1. Browse existing Discussions to see whether your idea has already been raised.
2. Start a new Discussion if you'd like feedback on a proposal or question.
3. When your proposal is ready, submit an RFC following the process described in the repository's README.md.

Constructive criticism, alternative perspectives, and evidence from existing modeling communities are especially valuable.
