As you already have done the PR, just apply it to fix the package. Removal of the package can be considered separately.

We have rather many semi-dead packages, either due to upstream silence or to absent maintainers here. So, this mjpg-streamer is not alone. (The saddest example is actually collectd, the core of our LuCI statistics, where the upstream team shrinked away and there has been no new release since 2020)

• @Ansuel - I agree with @hnyman on this one. We do have plenty of semi-dead packages, and if it's dead upstream, why should we care? :-) It just adds maintenance overhead. We have the same problem as you do within the main core repo - not many active people.

I'd say go ahead and drop it. There are a couple of Raspi projects that still (kind-of) support it, but I don't think we need to maintain it. It is still a useful tool if all you want is a light-weight USB camera server.

There is a modern replacement: https://github.com/pikvm/ustreamer

I don't use it so I don't really want to pick it up.
