Saw following message in claude code output:

Serena's Java support remains unavailable, so I'll fall back to the built-in Edit tool.

Why would that be the case? Serena's dashboard shows no errors, and symbol lookup tool had been used for a handful of times already.

The docs claim Java is supported OOTB, so no java-specific config should be needed.

MCP itself is enabled on user level in $CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR/.claude.json. Again, serena's own dashboard did confirm some usage already.

Java is supported OOTB, but Java support it is only available to a project if the project is configured to use it.
Please check your project's configuration.
Also, you could ask your agent what it means by "Serena's Java support remains unavailable".

There is no problem with Java support in Serena, so I am closing the issue you created from this discussion.

Could you elaborate on this? If Serena is globally enabled, and some LSP tools were already used, then what per-project configuration should be done in addition?

If your project configuration enables the Java language server (i.e. java is under the language_servers key in your project.yml file), then the Java language server should be available and requests should work.
If there is an issue, check the logs (view in Serena's dashboard).
If the Java language server is enabled, there is no issue in the logs but your LLM says the integration isn't working, ask the LLM why it thinks so.
