Resolves the blank white screen issue on Vercel deployment. The application was attempting to access the Gemini API key using `process.env.API_KEY`, which is not supported in client-side Vite applications. This caused a runtime error that prevented the app from rendering. This commit fixes the issue by: 1. Changing `services/geminiService.ts` to use `import.meta.env.VITE_GEMINI_API_KEY` to access the environment variable, as required by Vite. 2. Adding a check to ensure the API key exists before initializing the Gemini client, preventing crashes and logging a clear error message if the key is missing. 3. Creating a `.env.local` file with a dummy key to facilitate local development. 4. Updating `.gitignore` to explicitly ignore `.env.local`, preventing secrets from being committed.
