What is the right side yellow high frequency area above 2.5kHz used for? The user guide only covers the 500Hz to 1kHz yellow zone. I was chastised for using the right side for HB/ACK's.
It is the edge of the audio passband. If you have a wide enough filter, or have shifted your dial frequency up by 500Hz or something, you may find some stations that will hear you up there. On some bands you get into the WSPR area, others you'll be into FT8, tonight on 30m there is other digital modes going up there.
Some operators (myself included) set the filter so absolutely nothing will decode above or below the JS8 passband.
I can understand why someone would complain about using it for HB's/HB ACK's. That is reserved for the 500Hz subchannel on the lower end of the passband. HB's, especially on timers, are problematic as-is because they interfere with normal MSG'ing in the "green" part of the passband by increasing total noise in the passband, while reducing SNR. Most of the time being run on timers by stations that aren't even attended, which is illegal in any jurisdiction in the world. And the ACK blasts make it worse.
For that reason there's a lot of people that turn off HB's and ACK's, and JS8Call 3.0.3 introduced a new HB ACK suppression feature that blocks anybody who sends them more often than every 55 minutes. While there's nothing that says you can't bump your dial frequency to move up into that range (as long as it's not interfering with other weak signal modes like WSPR) for QSO's or MSG'ing, sending HB's or ACK's there (or anyplace in the green zone reserved for MSG'ing/QSO's) would be HIGHLY frowned upon.
