Stage 3: Accounts and editing

Hi everyone 👋

This is the contribution side, and the evolution of the edit-page from the wireframe proposal. It builds on Stage 2: Richer device pages and the Foundation baseline in the Foundation thread, start there for context.

Note: this is a design preview prototype, not the live site. The data is mocked, not real device telemetry, so treat every entry as a placeholder. I am after feedback on the design and structure here, not on the specific device facts.

Try it yourself

1. Open design preview prototype🔗
2. Long press the logo to open the Experiments dialog
3. Enable Accounts and editing and all its increments. It builds on Richer device pages, so enable that one and its increments too.
4. On the Philips Hue White A19, hit "Suggest an edit", change a curated field (the reported core stays locked), then "Submit for review" to see the pull-request flow. Nothing changes on the live record.

Then try:

• Leave mid-edit and come back to see the draft banner.
• Open the contributor directory at #/contributors and a profile, and switch the notification channel in Settings.
• Sign out, make an edit and register with a fake mail adres.

Accounts and editing

Community members can sign in, edit a device page, and have that edit attributed and reviewed before it goes live, without spending Foundation's two promises: reading stays free, and the reported core stays read-only.

Every change walks one path. You edit into a draft, submit it, which opens a pull request, and it goes live only when that request is merged. A declined edit is not a dead end, you can revise and resubmit. Every step carries your name.

Increments
The three increments in the comments are extra sub-steps that can be built on top of this stage. Each is its own comment, so reply under the one you have thoughts on.

Public profile pages and a browsable directory, with edit attributions linking to a profile.

How we tell you when an edit is in review, goes live, or is declined. Email or GitHub, or off, chosen in Settings.

One private dashboard: drafts, edits in review, what went live, and declined edits to revise, with submit-all batching.
