SpiralLinux 13 Trixie + VirtualBox 2026 Status

I was wondering what is going on with this now?
It is May 2026 and I do not see a spiral Linux 13 release yet.

Is it because VirtualBox hasn't done their Debian stuff yet?

This is the second release where SpiralLinux has been significantly delayed because of VirtualBox.

I believe this compilation of Debian is the best out there, and it is a shame that it is not more prolific because of its dependency on VirtualBox.

May I suggest that we please remove the dependency upon VirtualBox always release Spiral Linux ISOs immediately after a Debian release, and whenever VirtualBox does its Debian packaging, we re-release the Spiral Linux ISOs.

Installed Spiral Linux on many people's computers, but it's getting a bit tiring where I have to install Spiral Linux 12, and then update to Trixie.

It would be so much simpler just to install a Trixie version.

I think we need a fork of SpiralLinux which is actually active.

Butterbian is technically not a fork, but it's a distro based on Debian 13 with the same principles.

That would be great. It feels a bit tragic. Spiral Linux is a great piece of work!

Unfortunately, SpiralLinux is now a dead project. If you want something based on Debian 13 with Btrfs snapshots, Butterbian is the replacement / spiritual successor to SpiralLinux. It comes with XFCE by default, but there is a Butterknife version which provides a text-based installer supporting several other desktops and window managers, including COSMIC.
