Hello to everyone
I'm sure there is technical reason but do you think in the future can give the freedom to set where store the main data in easy way like many other software work from decade?
No trying to be sarcastic or anything again I'm sure there are reason but I think this create a huge problem when you try to use/sync/share the main "vault" with other device
I do use linux and for a while run the portable was a solution but stop to work and when I run the normal one is not able to use the backup location that I was set
( yes the solution is online and seems easy but actually is not that easy in real scenario and again it would be all avoided with just simple window when you sent the program for the 1st time or an option in proprieties )

PS not very familiar with this site and struggle with reading so my apologies in case someone already discuss about this topic.

Hi,

Yes, this has been requested in #4375.

The location can be changed with an environment variable for now: https://docs.triliumnotes.org/user-guide/setup/data-directory#changing-the-location-of-data-directory

A graphical way to do so is on the road map but not yet done.

Yess I did find this and unfortunately didn't work out ...

so I was hoping you going to develop a more simple solution in the near future
( which again simple very basic from my prospective )

Are you aware if there is any plan to make this improvement?

It is planned, yes. Not sure when, though.
It sounds simple, but there are quite a bit of technical constraints to consider.

Great I'm glad is in plan and I hope will be very soon,
I don't have any knowledge but is a feature that makes things much better and for what I know considering Trilium save all in one single file should at least from that prospective more direct, again I'm sure there lots to change in the code but in the end bring lots peace to the user.
I'll try to use your above guide again and hope manage to sort this time
