KS1 maths, science, reading, writing outcomes (NPD): how have ECHILD/other researchers coded these?

Hello!,

I am wondering if you can direct me to any papers/other places where ECHILD or other researchers have coded the KS1 outcomes in the National Pupil Database? Have you or others created a score (incorporating the various levels) or a binary outcome (working at/above KS1 level, or working below KS1 level).

There are a range of field values used. For example A=absent, D=disapplied, Q=Maladministration, BLW= Below, WTS= Working towards, EXS=Working at expected, GDS=Working at greater depth, then PKF and PK1-4.

I have been looking particularly to see what 'D', disapplied and 'Q', maladministration, mean but haven't found anything useful.

Apologies if this is available and I am not looking properly!

Any advice would be much appreciated,

We have reached out to a semi-retired professor who has agreed to share their code on cleaning EYFSP, KS1 and KS2.
We will be in the process of getting this code available for researchers soon. Please note this will have to be adapted and is in STATA

The cohort I am working with is 2018/19 so no 'scores' but teacher qualitative assessment.

In the code you shared it seems you have a number of ordered levels, so going from:
'BLW, PKF and PK1-4'
'WTS and HNM'
'EXS'
'GDS'

Is my understanding correct?

If you were to use these as binary outcomes would you include:
Working at or above KS1 standard = EXS, GDS
Working towards or below KS1 standard = WTS, HNM, BLW, PKF, PK1-4
