I wanted to check if the HOW TO guide has been updated for non UCL users? Is there a list of things we would need to change from the uploaded guides on the website?

Hi

Not yet but as far as I know the only two major differences are:

1. The issue with specifying table names from the views that are provisioned to you in your project area. This is something you will definitely need to address in your code in order to get started. It's still very a much a pending action for us but hopefully the thread you link to is enough to help. If not, do feel free to ask a question on the forum.
2. You may not have all the same datasets or years that were used to create the How To Guides. However, the aim was to be as general as possible while still producing something that looks realistic, is comprehensible and actually works. There will always be a need to taylor to some extent.

I wrote the guides as a starting point from which people can build their own code so the best thing to do is get stuck in and ask a question if you get stuck :)

It may be that other users come across problems with implementing the guides so please do feed back if something isn't working or doesn't look right

I'm working through your 'deliveries cohort' scripts (https://github.com/UCL-CHIG/deliveries-cohort).
When connecting to the SQL server your code in '00a_run_scripts.r" uses the following lines:

sql_channel <-
dbConnect(
RMySQL::MySQL(),
username = "[omitted]",
password = .rs.askForPassword("log in CPRU SQL server"),
host = "[omitted]",
port = omitted,
dbname = "[omitted]"
)

I'm not familiar with logging in this way, should it be possible for a non-University of London member?
So far I've been connecting using the below lines.

driver <- "{omitted}"
server <- "omitted"
database <- "omitted"
connection_string <- paste0(
"Driver=", driver, ";",
"Server=". server, ";",
"Database=", database, ";",
"trusted_connection=yes"
)
dbhandle <- odbcDriverConnect(connection_string)

Are these comparable approaches for the same type of connection? Sorry if I'm completely off track with this question! Thank you for any advice, Yasmin

Hi Yasmin, no, they're different. The deliveries cohort was developed in a different TRE with a different database and therefore different connection requirements. You'll need to amend the script so that it uses the method you're familiar with in ECHILD.
