Right now ACP config supports boolean toggles (on/off) and single-value selectors (pick one item from a list). These are good primitives, but since they cannot be nested or combined to create more complex menus they have some practical limitations.
Tool selection
In Wassette I currently generate a table to show which tools are available and whether they are enabled. In theory I could render this with many boolean toggles, but since they are all top-level this would quickly get unwieldy. Being able to group them in a single menu would make it easier to work with them.
Grouping model + effort + context size
The GitHub Copilot app groups model, effort, and context window size single-value in a single menu item. These are all single-value selectors, and being able to group them together makes sense to me. I believe this would also tie in nicely with the upcoming v2 protocol RFD which deprecates the dedicated model selectors in favor of the more flexible session config.
Virtual model toggle
The copilot app has a pretty neat trick up its sleeve by toggling the "auto" mode on model selection: instead of selecting a model yourself, this tries to match models to expected effort. In Pi this is called "virtual models".
When toggled it changes the rendered UI from selecting model + effort + context size individually to a more simplified/streamlined selector. I think this only really works well when items can be grouped like this.
