Help wanted: testers, packagers, translators and contributors

axiom is one desktop shell that runs on Hyprland, sway and niri. Right now one person on one machine with one GPU builds and tests all three. That leaves plenty of setups nobody has tried. Here's where help goes furthest. Reply below, or on a linked issue, if one of these fits you. You don't need to commit to anything long-term.

Compositor testers: Hyprland, sway / SwayFX and niri

People who use one of the three every day, on hardware and setups that differ from mine: other GPUs (NVIDIA especially), several monitors, mixed scaling, laptops, tablets, unusual keyboard layouts.

• What it involves: running axiom (or a branch) as your shell, and reporting what breaks with the bug form (bug_info.sh + log.sh output). Now and then, trying a fix before it lands.
• Time: whatever you run into. A report now and then is already a big help.
• Later: someone who knows a compositor well and wants to look after its backend (services/<Name>Manager.qml, its config writer and its docs under docs/dev/compositor/) is very welcome.

Packagers

axiom installs today from a git clone (install.sh, Arch and Fedora). It should also be packaged, with the same names everywhere:

• AUR: the PKGBUILDs are in packaging/aur/, and CI checks their dependencies against install.sh's. If you already have an AUR account and would publish or co-maintain them, comment on #76. Trying a build (makepkg -si in packaging/aur/axiom-shell-git/) and reporting what breaks helps too.
• COPR, Nix and others: writing the package and keeping it up to date. axiom has no build step, so a package is mostly files plus dependencies. docs/dev/packaging.md lists every dependency and where it comes from on Arch and Fedora, and describes the layout the AUR packages use (/usr/share/axiom, read-only), which other packages can copy. Some things in the shell still assume a git clone. They're tracked as issues, and I'll fix them as packagers run into them.
• Time: setting one up, then a bump for each release.
• Other distributions are welcome too: open a platform request.

Translators

Every string in axiom can be translated, and a partial translation is fine: anything left empty shows in English. See the translations tracker for how to start and which languages are taken.

Contributors

Bar widgets, overlay modules, themes, app theme integrations, docs: each kind has a recipe in docs/recipes/ naming the files to touch and one to copy. Issues marked good first issue are small and come with the files to look at. help wanted are bigger, or need a particular setup to test. Start with CONTRIBUTING.md.

Co-maintainers

Down the line: someone to share triage and reviews with. The way in is any of the above, so start there.
