Starting this morning (April 13, 2025, UTC+8), I am unable to access GitHub without a proxy:

My IP information are as follows:

• IPv4: 58.19.128.79
• IPv6: 2408:824e:307:161:d8ef:42ae:14b4:7
• ISP: China Unicom

I did not see any announcement or advisory about accessing GitHub from mainland China so I would like some explanation or update on the situation. Thanks.

I can't access GitHub using HTTPS, but SSH works.

It appears for China that only the users with authorized session can access GitHub now.
HTTPS does not authorize (via prompt), but SSH does. So accesses via HTTPS are banned.

I am not in China but I have another issue like that and I tried any way like opening discussion and trying to contact github support but no ones answer:
My github account is logged out and when I try to login to my github account it sends an sms to my number for 2FA but give me 500 internal error said "We track these errors automatically, but if the problem persists feel free to contact us. In the meantime, try refreshing."
It also happens when I try to reset password. it sends me the sms but got the same 500 internal page error too.
I really need help cause I can not login to my personal github account right now and it has been a while.

In fact, there are real people, but due to the large volume of so-called support tickets, they usually delay for a while before starting to handle your ticket (tickets related to accounts will take even longer, and you might receive a reply from GitHub's support department several months later).

It is unnecessary to disclose your IPv6 address because gist.github.com does not have an IPv6 address. IPv6 addresses can precisely locate you to your street (even the exact position of your residence). For privacy concerns, I suggest you avoid disclosing your real IP as much as possible.

Update: opened GitHub Desktop App and I logged in through Safari Browser and then everything was fine. Finally I had to use the "GitHub Desktop App".
