Hi GitHub Team and Community,

Could you please clarify whether GitHub is awaiting further procedures or clarifications from the US government?

Could the current decisions, announcements, and permissions alone be sufficient grounds for GitHub to lift the sanctions imposed on Syrian developers?

Is there an estimated timeline (ETA) for removing the current GitHub restrictions and bans on users in Syria?

Some well-known companies such as Steam and Binance already lifted the sanctions:

Right now, many developers from Syria cannot fully use GitHub because of country restrictions. But GL 25 shows that most of the sanctions have been lifted. Unblocking Syrian accounts will let talented developers learn, share code, and work with others around the world. This can give communities still recovering from war hope and new skills.

We really appreciate GitHub’s attention to this matter and hope to see full access restored soon so Syrian developers can rejoin the global open-source community.
