Hey there, you should reach GitHub support and give them proofs that you're a student, they will probably resolve your issue. |
|
Try asking your school for help. Or wait until they help you with the documents |
|
What kind of school email doesn't allow external emails, you should probably talk to your school |

Hey @rlettcode We've updated our Student Developer Pack Application FAQs & Common Rejection Reasons discussion. It's packed with valuable information that might just have what you're looking for. I've included the section that I feel would best assist. You may have to speak to your school's IT department to provide confirmation that emails don't allow external domains and to us that you need to use an alternative email to verify this school. |

Here’s what you can do:

If your school blocks external emails, you usually won’t be able to verify the student email through GitHub’s automatic verification system. In this case, you can still apply for GitHub Student Developer Pack using documentation instead of a school email. During the application process, choose the option that says “I don’t have a school-issued email address” and upload proof of enrollment such as:
Make sure the document clearly shows :your name, the school name, and a current date or active status. If the support ticket form isn’t showing confirmation, try:
You can also apply directly through the official page: If verification still fails, GitHub Education Support can manually review your documents once the ticket is successfully submitted. |

It looks like the issue is happening because your school email cannot receive external emails, so the verification email from GitHub never reaches you. In this situation, you can still apply for the GitHub Student Developer Pack using documentation instead of a school email. When applying, choose the option that allows student verification through documents. GitHub usually accepts proof such as a student ID card, enrollment letter, timetable, or a screenshot from your school portal showing your name and the current academic year. Upload one of these documents during the application process. The GitHub Education team will manually review it and verify your student status. Regarding the support ticket issue, try submitting the request again using a different browser, clearing your cache, or using an incognito window. If the confirmation still does not appear, you can contact GitHub Education support directly through their help page. Once your documentation is approved, you should be able to access the GitHub Student Developer Pack benefits without needing the school email verification. |

Hey! I totally get how frustrating that situation is — school email restrictions make the verification step really difficult. Here are a few things that might help:
Hope you get it sorted soon — GitHub Student Pack is definitely worth it! |

Use GitHub’s alternative verification (upload your student ID/enrollment proof) and contact support via a different browser or device if the ticket form isn’t submitting. |
|
If you don’t have access to your school email, you can still apply using alternative verification. Try this:
Also, if your school blocks external emails, you won’t receive verification emails, so manual verification is the best option. Make sure your GitHub profile name matches your documents to avoid rejection. If your support ticket is not submitting, try a different browser or device. |

Based on that discussion thread, here's a clear, consolidated answer: Your school email blocks external emails, so GitHub's verification email never arrives. This is common with schools that restrict inbound mail to protect students. Solution: Manual Document Verification You don't need a school email. GitHub supports document-based verification as an alternative. Step 1 — Go to the application page: Step 2 — Choose the "I don't have a school-issued email" option (or similar wording). This lets you upload proof instead. Step 3 — Upload one of these documents:
Key tips for the document:
If the Support Ticket Form Isn't Working This was a secondary issue in the thread. Try:

GitHub's education team can manually approve your Student Developer Pack once they review valid documentation — the school email is a convenience, not a hard requirement. |

Maybe you can try with your school id or Tuition receipt instead of school email |

This issue happens because GitHub requires the school email to be verified before it can be used for GitHub Education benefits. Since your school blocks incoming external emails, the verification email from GitHub never reaches your inbox, which prevents the application process from continuing normally. However, you can still apply using official student documentation instead of relying only on the school email verification. Recommended solution:
For the support ticket issue:
If nothing works, open the support form under the “Other” category and explain that:
This is usually a verification-system limitation rather than an eligibility problem, and manual review with proper documents is often enough to resolve it. |

Are the answers provided here official? I created a ticket with my documents, and this is the support team's current response:
Is this supposed to be discouraging? If github doesn't want to provide me with education access, they can just tell me! |

Hi! You can still apply for the GitHub Student Developer Pack even if your school email cannot receive outside emails. Since your school blocks external emails, you should try the “No school email?” or “Use documentation instead” option during the application process. GitHub usually accepts documents such as:
Make sure the document clearly shows:
If the support ticket confirmation is not showing up, try:
You can also contact GitHub Education support directly and explain that your school email cannot receive external emails, so you need manual verification with documents. Hope this helps, and good luck getting approved! |

Hi, If you can't verify your school email because your school blocks external emails, you can still apply for the GitHub Student Developer Pack using proof of enrollment. During the application process, select the option to verify your student status with documentation and upload an official document from your school. If you're having trouble submitting a support ticket and aren't receiving a confirmation, try using a different browser, clearing your cache, or submitting the request from an incognito/private window. If the issue persists, you may need to contact GitHub Support through another available channel. Good luck with your application! |

Hi, If your school email cannot receive external emails, you can still apply for the GitHub Student Developer Pack using alternative proof of enrollment. Try selecting the option to verify your student status with documentation and upload a valid student ID card, enrollment certificate, transcript, or class schedule. If the verification option is not available or your support tickets are not being submitted correctly, I recommend contacting GitHub Education Support directly and explaining that your school email cannot receive external emails. Include your school name and proof of enrollment in your request. I hope this helps. Good luck with your application! |

Hi, if you can't receive the verification email, you can usually verify your student status by submitting proof of enrollment (student ID, enrollment letter, transcript, etc.) instead. For the ticket issue, try using a different browser or an incognito window and submit it again. If it still doesn't work, contact GitHub Education support and explain that your school blocks external emails. |

I don't have access to a school email either. If your school doesn't provide one, you can usually verify your student status by submitting alternative documents like a student ID card, enrollment certificate, class schedule, or tuition receipt through GitHub's verification process. |
Apply using documentation instead of a school email. Student ID card |

If your school blocks incoming external emails, you may still be able to verify your student status without relying on the school email. Try the following:
For the support-ticket issue, make sure you are signed into the correct GitHub account before submitting. Check your GitHub notifications and email, including spam/junk, for confirmation. If no confirmation appears, use the GitHub Education Community discussion/support route instead of repeatedly submitting the same ticket. The important point is that you should not try to bypass the school email requirement with a temporary or fake email. The correct solution is either to have the school's email system allow GitHub's verification email or use GitHub's available document-based verification method. |
Hi, if your school blocks incoming external emails, the problem is that you can't complete the normal email-verification step even though you have valid proof of enrollment. Since you already have documentation proving that you're currently enrolled, I’d contact GitHub Education Support and specifically explain that your school email cannot receive external verification emails. Ask whether they can provide an alternative document-based verification method for your account. For the support-ticket issue, make sure you're signed into the correct GitHub account when submitting the request and check your regular email (including spam/junk) for a confirmation. If you still don't receive any confirmation, try submitting the request from another browser or an incognito window. I’d also avoid repeatedly creating new accounts or changing your school email, since that can make the Education verification more complicated. Your existing enrollment documents should be the important part when Support reviews the case. |
