[Feature request] Introduce "only @mentions" notifications setting

Hey 👋

I have "Scheduled Reminders" configured to receive scheduled and real-time notifications on PRs when I get a review request or my PR is reviewed. Also I used it to get notifications about PR comments and it all worked like a charm speeding up async communication within the team. But we got to a situation when we also need to somehow get notifications about conversations in GitHub issues. I tried different ways of doing it via GitHub web notifications:

• using only Participating settings
• using only Watch setting + "participating" in repo settings

but I still get some other noise from PRs because once I get assigned as a reviewer - GitHub sends also these notifications to web/email, i.e. I get duplicates from "web" notifications and from "scheduled reminders" setting.

It would be nice if it could be possible to have next setup: send web/email notifications only for comments (both in PRs and Issues) where you are @mentioned, avoiding any PR state notifications.

As an alternative that is even more convenient: add an ability to get notifications in slack about comments in issues where your are author/assignee. This way we could use that seamless integration to speed up async work within our team 🙏🏻

GitHub Native Options (limited)

Participating only: You’ll always get review requests and review state notifications if you’re assigned. There’s no way to “only get @mentions” without also catching review assignments.

Custom watch on issues: GitHub doesn’t currently let you configure “notify me about comments only if I’m the author or assignee.”

So, yeah — what you want (PR/issue comments only, @mentions only, skip state changes) isn’t possible purely via web/email notification settings today.

Thanks for suggestion, already tried this approach

The main problem: get notifications ONLY on issues I'm interested in (author, assignee, @mention), currently it also involves PRs and makes inbox too noisy 😬 (esp if you are "zero-inbox" enthusiast 😅 )

In case this is useful to others, I created a small GitHub Action to act as a bridge between GitHub Notifications and an external messaging platform such as Slack.

The base idea is to push notifications (such as @mention in GitHub Issues) to Slack, and mark them as "done" as soon as they've been forwarded.

This is far from perfect, Scheduled Reminders working fully for Issues would be better, but that provides a solution in the interim.
