I'm looking to allow my access-token permissions to read checks-status for any commit & in the official docs it's mentioned to add the checks permission, but there is no option to provide this.

The “Checks” permission is not available for fine-grained personal access tokens.
Only GitHub App tokens support the required “Checks: read/write” scope, which is why it does not appear in your permissions list.
If you need to call the Checks API (e.g., create a check run), you must generate a GitHub App installation token instead of a fine-grained PAT.

In this setup, GitLab only pulls data from GitHub. It has no mechanism to push changes back to GitHub unless you explicitly configure a "Push Mirror," which you should avoid.

1. Create a Read-Only Personal Access Token (PAT) on GitHub

The most critical security step is ensuring the credentials GitLab uses cannot write to GitHub.

    Log in to GitHub and go to Settings > Developer settings > Personal access tokens > Fine-grained tokens. 

Click Generate new token.

Resource Owner: Select your account or organization.

Repository Access: Select Only select repositories and choose the specific repo you want to mirror.

Permissions:

    Contents: Set to Read-only. 

    (This is crucial; it prevents GitLab from pushing code, creating branches, or modifying files on GitHub).

    Metadata: Set to Read-only.

Set an Expiration date and generate the token.

Copy the token immediately.
