Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble signing up for the Education plan. Let me explain: early last year, I created a GitHub account using my school email address, but I haven't touched it since. In the meantime, I lost my login token, so I couldn’t log in anymore. I unlinked my email and added it to my main account. Once that was done, I was able to submit a request for GitHub Education, but when I submit it, the request is automatically blocked with this message:

Hi @raphaelhgit,
the issue is that GitHub links the student discount to the account, not just the email. Even if you unlinked the email, the system still remembers that your school email was used for the account 'raphaelhenrion'.

What you can do:

1. Recover the old account: Try to reset the password or find the login token for 'raphaelhenrion'.
2. Contact Support: If you can't access the old account, you must open a ticket at GitHub Education Support. Tell them you want to transfer the benefit from your old account to your new one because you lost access.

Only GitHub staff can manually 'release' that email from the old record.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I can't log in because I linked the email address to my current account, so when I try to log in, it logs me into that account instead of the old one

If you still can’t get in because of the lost token/password, you have no other choice but to contact GitHub Support directly. Tell them your school email is 'stuck' on an inaccessible account and you need them to manually release it so you can use it on your current one.
