I have an active GitHub Copilot Pro+ subscription, but when I try to select Claude Opus 4.6 or Claude Sonnet 4.6 in VS Code, they both show an "Upgrade" label instead of being available for use.

Other models like Gemini 2.5 Pro, Gemini 3.1 Pro (Preview), GPT-4o, and GPT-5.4 are accessible without any issues.

That's not us bug, it's because Copilot is close Opus 4.6 , force us to use 4.7 , they just annouced couple hours ago

but, they makes the upgrade Plan button at Opus 4.6. It seems like a bad player

I have the same issue when using 4.6; no issues last night. I saw the upgrade button next to it this morning, so I upgraded to Pro+, and the upgrade button is still there in Visual Studio.

I'm experiencing a related issue as a Pro+ subscriber (account: yufanwu345-eng, ~29% premium requests used this cycle).

Specific observation: In my VS Code model picker, Claude Opus 4.6 (standard, 192K/3x) appears and works fine, but the claude-opus-4.6-fast variant is completely absent — no "Upgrade" button, no indication of its existence. According to the official model comparison docs, it should be available as a "(preview)" model with 9x multiplier.

Environment:

• VS Code latest stable, Windows 11
• Copilot Chat extension latest version
• All Claude models enabled in policy toggles at github.com/settings/copilot

Troubleshooting attempted (all unsuccessful):

• Signed out / signed back in
• Reinstalled Copilot Chat extension
• Tested from multiple network regions (direct, Singapore proxy, Hong Kong proxy)
• Cleared VS Code cache

This seems related to the broader Claude model availability pattern also reported in #192178, #189722, and the tracking thread #189795. Would appreciate any update from the team on whether claude-opus-4.6-fast is currently in limited rollout, temporarily disabled, or region-gated.

This is expected behavior in many cases and is usually related to model access tiers within Copilot Pro+, not a bug in VS Code. I encountered it myself, so here's a little helping tool:

Why you're seeing “Upgrade” despite having Copilot Pro+

Copilot Pro+ does not guarantee access to all models.

GitHub currently gates certain models (like Claude Opus / Sonnet variants) based on:

• rollout phases
• region/account eligibility
• feature flags
• or higher-tier entitlements

So even with Pro+, you might see:

• some models available (GPT-4o, GPT-5, Gemini variants)
• others marked as “Upgrade”

I actually forgot to mention one detail: I have a VMware virtual machine installed on my Windows 11 host. I can use Claude without any issues on the web interface and in the local Windows VS Code. However, it becomes unavailable when I try to use it directly inside the virtual machine or when connecting to the VM via SSH from my Windows VS Code.

It feels like a restriction on how the model can be accessed, but I haven't found any official documentation explaining this behavior.

So, set Opus 4.7 as the same multiplier than 4.6 as you removed forcibly with no warnings. I'm on Pro+ so not a bigger plan to upgrade to.

There is nothing to solve. They removed Opus 4.5 and 4.6 from Pro and Pro+ plan. Only Opus 4.7 at 7.5x multiplier is left.

The solve is go get your own Anthropic API key and add a custom model.. Then cry when when your previous 12c query costs $12 or more.. I spent $110 today on API credits for Opus 4.5 enhancing a feature on my app from 2 requests.. plan and then implement.. 2M+ tokens.. 🫨😢😭

Opus models are no longer available on Copilot Pro. Opus 4.7 remains available on Pro+. As previously announced, Opus 4.5 and 4.6 will also be removed from Pro+. dont think so...

They even removed Claude Sonnet 4.6 for Copilot Pro user. (I don't use this model but it's really disgusting)
