Verified Student account still on Copilot Free instead of Copilot Pro

Description

My GitHub account has been verified as a student through the GitHub Education
program, but I am still on Copilot Free instead of being upgraded to
Copilot Pro as expected.

Steps to reproduce

1. Applied for GitHub Student Developer Pack
2. Received confirmation that student status was verified
3. Navigated to GitHub Copilot settings
4. Copilot plan still shows as "Free" instead of "Pro"

Expected behavior

After student verification is confirmed, Copilot Pro should be automatically
activated at no cost as part of the GitHub Student Developer Pack benefits.

Actual behavior

Copilot plan remains on Free tier despite having a verified student account.

Additional context

• GitHub Education verification status: Verified
• Account type: Personal
• Copilot settings page shows: Free plan
• I have tried signing out and back in, but the issue persists

We have provided more details about changes to Copilot Individual Plans in this discussion and  this discussion, which may be updated if new information becomes available.

From the FAQ:

10. I'm newly eligible for Copilot Student but have never activated it. Can I sign up now?
    At this time, new activations of Copilot Student, Pro, and Pro+ are paused.

Your GitHub Education verification is active and has not been removed. The pause affects the ability to activate Copilot Student or a Copilot paid plan. When signups resume, you will be able to activate the Education benefit if you are still eligible. In the meantime, Copilot Free remains available for signups.

We do not have an estimated timeframe to share yet for when the pause will end. Updates will be posted in the linked discussion posts.
