Hi everyone,

Hello,

I am a postdoctoral researcher (academic staff) at the Songjiang Research Institute, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. I selected the faculty/staff option for GitHub Education verification.

I do not have a faculty ID card or employee badge, but I do have:

• an official university email address
• a public institutional webpage showing my name and postdoctoral position

I uploaded my institutional webpage as proof of affiliation.

I would also like to clarify that I normally need to use a VPN to access GitHub services. However, during the location verification process, I turned off my VPN.

In addition, my detected location may not match the university campus because Shanghai Jiao Tong University has multiple affiliated hospitals and research institutes, and I work at the Songjiang Research Institute rather than on the main campus.

I have already tried the verification process twice, but both attempts failed. Could you please let me know what additional documents or information I should provide, or what I should do next?

Thank you for the clarification. Since GitHub Education verification can sometimes be strict for faculty/staff accounts, the issue is likely that the system needs a stronger proof of employment than only a public webpage, even if you are using an official university email address.

Because you do not have a faculty ID card or employee badge, I would recommend submitting another official document that clearly shows your current position at the university or research institute. For example:

• an employment or appointment letter
• an HR document or contract
• a recent payslip
• a signed letter from your department or supervisor confirming your postdoctoral position

It helps if the document includes:

• your full name
• your position/title
• the institution name
• a recent date

Also, make sure:

• your GitHub account is linked to your official university email address
• the verification is done without a VPN enabled
• you use a stable connection during the process

Regarding the location mismatch, that should generally be understandable since Shanghai Jiao Tong University has multiple affiliated institutes and hospitals. You may want to mention again that you are based at the Songjiang Research Institute rather than the main campus.

If the verification still fails after uploading additional documents, I would suggest contacting GitHub Education Support directly and attaching:
