I recently got approved for the GitHub Student Developer Pack, and my verification is active. I am aware of the current notice stating that new activations for Copilot Student are temporarily paused and that there is no estimated timeframe yet.

However, I wanted to ask if there are any community updates, or if anyone from the GitHub team could provide any general insights on when we might expect signups to resume? Many of us are starting new academic projects and would love to utilize Copilot.

At the moment, GitHub has only stated that new Copilot Student activations are temporarily paused and that there is no announced timeline for when registrations will reopen. Since no official ETA has been provided, any dates shared by community members would be speculation.

The best approach is to keep an eye on official GitHub announcements and the Student Developer Pack updates page. Once activations resume, GitHub will likely communicate it through their official channels.

In the meantime, your Student Developer Pack verification remains active, so you'll be ready when the Copilot Student signup process becomes available again.

GitHub has not officially announced a specific end date for the Copilot Student signup pause.
Current Situation (as of June 2026)
GitHub has paused new sign-ups for Copilot Pro, Pro+, and Student plans to serve existing customers more effectively while tightening usage limits for individual plans.

Why Did GitHub Do This?
Agentic workflows have fundamentally changed Copilot's compute demands. Long-running, parallelized sessions now regularly consume far more resources than the original plan structure was built to support.
