Hello everyone,

I'm trying to subscribe to GitHub Copilot Pro, but I'm unable to complete the payment.

Every time I attempt to subscribe, I receive the following error:

"Payment didn't go through. We couldn't process your payment. Please try again."

Here's what I've already tried:

Enabled international transactions on my cards.
Tried both a credit card and a debit card from different banks.
Retried the payment multiple times over the past two days.

Additionally, a temporary verification amount of ₹94 was debited from both cards, but the subscription was not activated.

Has anyone experienced this issue before? Is there anything else I should try, or could this be an issue with my GitHub account or the payment processor?

Hello, I tried paying in mobile app, the payment went through but there were no subscriptions registered nor payment record in payment history. Will I get a refund or something?

A few things you can try:

• Check with your bank if recurring international payments are enabled.
• Try a different browser, incognito mode, or another device.
• Remove and re-add your payment method.
• Ensure your billing address matches your card details.
• If the issue persists, contact GitHub Support—they can check if it's an account or payment processor issue.

The ₹94 charge is usually a temporary authorization and should be refunded automatically.

This is a very common issue specifically for users in India due to strict banking regulations regarding international recurring mandates (e-mandates).

Since the ₹94 temporary authorization charge successfully goes through, your card is active and communicating with GitHub's processor, but the bank is automatically blocking the actual recurring monthly subscription model.

Here are the two definitive ways to solve this:

1. Switch the Payment Method to PayPal (Highly Recommended):
   GitHub Copilot accepts PayPal in your region. Go to Settings > Billing & plans > Payment information > Add payment method and select PayPal. Linking your Indian card or bank account to PayPal and using it as the primary gateway bypasses the direct international card processing restrictions.

2. Enable "International Recurring/Standing Instructions" with your Bank:
   Simply having "international online transactions" turned on is often not enough for automated monthly subscriptions like Copilot. You need to log into your bank's net banking app or call their customer support to explicitly authorize an international standing instruction/recurring mandate for GitHub Inc. (USA).

Additionally, make sure that your Billing Address country inside GitHub exactly matches the issuing country of your credit/debit cards, as any mismatch will trigger an automatic fraud decline on GitHub's end.

I've seen similar issues before. The small ₹94 charge is usually just a temporary authorization to verify your card, and it should be automatically refunded if the payment doesn't go through.

Since you've already tried multiple cards, enabled international transactions, and retried over a couple of days, it may not be an issue with your bank. It could be something on GitHub's payment processor or a billing-related issue with your account.

At this point, I'd recommend contacting GitHub Support with the error message and the steps you've already tried. They should be able to check whether there's anything preventing the subscription from going through.

i have similar case, i tried to upgade subscription type and github payment wasn't just triggered. Clearly github has broken payment system

same here-
my credit card failed so I used my wife's Paypal and it also failed.
I always get the same error
"Payment didn't go through
We are having a problem billing your account. Please update your payment information."
