Unable to renew GitHub Student Developer Pack – application cannot be created

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some guidance regarding renewing my GitHub Student Developer Pack.

I previously received the Student Developer Pack on my GitHub account Mukhil-077 using my college email. My benefits have now expired, and I am still an enrolled student, so I wanted to apply again.

However, whenever I try to submit a new application, I receive the following error:

"My college email has already been used to obtain an academic discount on GitHub account(s) Mukhil-077."

This is the same GitHub account that previously received the Student Developer Pack, so I'm unsure how to proceed. I don't have a pending application, and the system won't let me create a new one because it says the email has already been used.

Has anyone experienced this issue before? Were you able to renew your Student Developer Pack, or did GitHub Support need to manually resolve it?

This error usually pops up because you're going through the new application flow instead of the renewal/reverification flow — since it's the same account and same email, GitHub's system flags it as a duplicate rather than a renewal.
A couple of things to try:

Don't start a fresh application from the general apply page. Instead, go directly to education.github.com/benefits — if you're eligible for reverification, you should see a "Reverify your academic affiliation" option there (or a prompt to "submit your information again"). This routes it correctly as a renewal instead of a brand-new request.
Check if the "Reverify" option only appears after expiration. Some students have reported this option doesn't show up until the current benefit period has actually lapsed — so if yours just expired, try logging out/in or waiting a short while for the page to update.
If neither of the above shows up for you, this is one of those cases the Community forum can't fix directly — moderators/other users can't reset Student Pack eligibility. You'll need to contact GitHub Education Support directly: support.github.com/contact/education. Have ready: your account username (Mukhil-077), the academic email, and current proof of enrollment (student ID with date, or an enrollment verification letter from your university) — they can manually clear the "already used" flag tied to your account and let the renewal go through.

To be clear, since it's the same account both times, this isn't a transfer issue (that's a different, harder case) — it's just the renewal path misfiring, which Support can usually resolve quickly once you confirm you're still enrolled.
