I’m reporting a technical failure in GitHub Codespaces affecting Copilot Chat installation.

Date/time: July 23, 2026
Account type: Personal account (no org restrictions)
Environment: GitHub Codespaces (browser)

Repro:

1. Open Codespace
2. Run:
   code --install-extension github.copilot-chat --force --verbose
   code --list-extensions

Observed:

• Updating extension 'github.copilot-chat' to 0.48.1
• Error while installing extension github.copilot-chat: [object Object]
• Failed Installing Extensions: github.copilot-chat
• Installed extensions after failure:
  github.codespaces
  github.github-vscode-theme
  (sometimes github.vscode-pull-request-github)

Impact:

• Copilot Chat does not initialize (“chat took too long to get ready”)
• Reproducible across restarted and newly created Codespaces

Request:
Please route to the Codespaces/Copilot team to investigate remote extension installation failure in Codespaces.

UX feedback on GitHub Support flow (from a blocked user)

I was trying to report a real production-blocking issue:
Codespaces cannot install github.copilot-chat (error: [object Object]).

What happened:

1. Support entry points repeatedly looped me between Help/Docs/Troubleshooter pages.
2. I was not clearly routed to a human ticket form.
3. Category choices (billing/privacy/etc.) did not match my technical issue.
4. “Watch/Subscribe/Notifications” language was unclear while I was already frustrated.
5. I had to switch to Community Discussions just to get visibility.

Impact:

• High stress and lost time.
• Delayed reporting of a reproducible platform issue.
• Made me less able to work/function during the incident.

Requested improvements:

• Add a clear “Report technical bug to Support” button from every troubleshooter result.
• Add “None of the above / still broken → contact human support” as a first-class path.
• Detect blocked loops and offer direct escalation automatically.
• Improve wording: “Watch = send me notifications/email updates.”
• Preserve and auto-attach diagnostic command output when provided.

This is not about documentation quality; it is about routing and escalation UX under stress.
