I posted a discussion asking whether a feature exists, and the answer was no.

Can I convert that existing discussion into Product Feedback, or should I create a new feedback post and link back to the original discussion?

You cannot recategorize that discussion yourself in the GitHub Community organization. Changing an existing discussion's category is a moderation action; GitHub documents that managing discussions requires triage access or higher to the repository (or to the source repository used for organization discussions).

I would avoid immediately duplicating the post. A better sequence is:

1. Edit the original discussion so the desired feature and use case are explicit.
2. Ask a Community moderator to move it to the appropriate Product Feedback category.
3. If it is not moved, create a focused Product Feedback post and link both directions, while keeping the accepted answer in the original Question.

That preserves the useful Q&A and avoids splitting votes and context across duplicate posts. The relevant documentation is Managing discussions — Changing the category for a discussion, including its access requirements.

For your linked discussion, the existing answer (whether the filter currently exists) and the proposed feedback (that such a filter should exist) are slightly different artifacts, so a separate linked feedback post is reasonable only if a moderator cannot recategorize it.
