Hi everyone,

I am currently doing PhD in Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Mumbai. I was trying to register for Github education benefits but my application is getting rejected all the time. I have enabled 2fA, Public name same as ID card, and updated billing address also. The ID card do have validity mentioned which is till 31st July 2027. I don't know why it is getting rejected. Can anyone help me

Looking at the screenshot, one thing that stands out is that there are several rejected applications within just minutes of each other (6, 9, 12, 17 minutes apart) and that pattern itself could be part of the problem, since GitHub Education's verification system tends to flag rapid re-applications as suspicious even when the underlying data is correct, because it looks similar to automated or fraudulent attempts. My suggestion is to stop reapplying for a good stretch (at least 24–48 hours) before trying again. Beyond that, for research institutes like TIFR the most common issue usually isn't 2FA, name matching, or billing address, but the type of document: if you're using your student/researcher ID card as proof, try instead an official enrollment letter or certificate from your academic department on institutional letterhead, with a recent date, your full name, the program (PhD), and the validity period that tends to have a better approval rate than an ID card, since the OCR sometimes struggles to read laminated cards properly. If you have a TIFR institutional email (even if it doesn't end in .edu), try that as a verification method too, since it's sometimes prioritized over the document. And if it still doesn't work after that, since you've already got the basics right (2FA, name, address), the most efficient move is to email education@github.com directly, explaining you're a PhD researcher at TIFR and that the document with a clear validity date keeps getting rejected without a specific reason that gets you a manual review with more detail than the generic rejection message.
