Hi everyone,

I have tried submitting my application about 5 times on 3 different devices, and no matter what I do, I'm told I am too far. For context, I am currently in high school and live about 10 minutes from my school. It is summer right now, so there are no classes. Whenever I apply, I am told that I'm too far from campus. I have tried on a laptop, PC, and phone with wifi and via cellular. If anyone has advice on how to solve this problem, I would love to hear it. Thanks!

"Too far" with you 10 minutes away almost always means one of these three, none of which is your distance:

1. The browser is giving a coarse or wrong location. If location permission is denied or the device falls back to IP-based geolocation, your "position" can be your ISP's regional hub — tens or hundreds of km off. Before applying: allow location for github.com/education.github.com when prompted, turn off any VPN/private relay (iCloud Private Relay counts), and on desktop prefer a device with Wi-Fi on (Wi-Fi triangulation is far more precise than wired-IP lookup). Your cellular attempt can also land on a distant carrier gateway.
2. The school's registered coordinates are wrong. The check compares your position against where GitHub's database thinks the campus is — for districts, that's sometimes the administrative office or even a same-named school elsewhere. Sanity-check by looking up your school's entry when selecting it; if the associated town looks off, that's the bug. That fix goes through https://support.github.com/contact/education as an institution record correction (school name, actual campus address, website).
3. Summer itself isn't the issue — the check wants proximity, not classes in session. But if nothing above pans out, one attempt made physically at the school (parking lot works) is the brute-force disambiguator: if it passes there, your geolocation was the problem; if it still fails at the campus itself, the school's coordinates are wrong and case 2 applies.

Also: stop at ~5 attempts and space any further ones by a day — rapid repeats make the automated system stricter regardless of cause.
