Body
In light of https://github.blog/changelog/2026-08-10-custom-thread-subscriptions-are-being-deprecated/ I'd like to request an alternative to be implemented first.
Discussions on issues and pull requests can be lengthy and very tiring to follow. But I do want to know if/when they are resolved! So I'm very frequently only subscribing to when issue or pull request is merged/closed/reopened. I do this with both issues and pull requests.
Not having this capability would be a massive downgrade in usability, I can't even describe how bad that would be!
