Unable to apply for GitHub Student Developer Pack because my university no longer provides academic email

Hi everyone,

I am currently enrolled as a student at FPT University in Vietnam and I am trying to apply for the GitHub Student Developer Pack.

However, when I submit my application, I receive this error:

"There was an error creating the discount request. Errors: Discount request could not be created. Discount request errors: We require applicants to use a school-issued email address to apply."

The issue is that FPT University no longer provides school-issued academic email addresses to current students.

I have valid proof of current enrollment, including my student ID and current academic documents. However, I cannot submit these documents because the application requires a school-issued email address before the application can be created.

According to the GitHub Education documentation, students whose schools do not provide academic email addresses can use official documentation to prove their current enrollment. However, I am unable to reach the document verification stage because of the school-email requirement.

Has anyone from a university that no longer provides academic email addresses encountered this issue? Is there currently a way to trigger the document-based verification flow?

That error means GitHub's institution record for FPT University still has a school email domain registered (historically @fpt.edu.vn / @fe.edu.vn), so the automated flow hard-requires an address from it — it's not judging your documents at all, it never gets that far.

Two directions, in order:

1. Check whether you can actually get an FPT address activated. FPT University has issued @fpt.edu.vn accounts through FAP/IT services for a long time; "no longer provides" sometimes means "not issued automatically anymore" rather than "unavailable" — the IT helpdesk can often activate one for a currently enrolled student on request. If you can get one, verify it on your GitHub account and the application goes through the normal path — this is by far the fastest route.
2. If the university genuinely no longer issues student email: the institution record needs updating on GitHub's side, and that can't be done from the application form. Report it via https://support.github.com/contact/education — state that FPT University no longer issues student email addresses, and attach your proof of current enrollment. Once they adjust the record, the document-verification path opens up. Until the record changes, resubmitting will keep hitting the same "school-issued email required" wall, so save your attempts.

Whichever path, make sure your full name on GitHub profile + billing (Settings → Billing → payment information) matches your enrollment document exactly, so the document check passes on the first try once you're unblocked.
