Hi everyone,

I was rejected after uploading an unofficial transcript for the following reasons:

We were unfortunately not able to verify your academic status. Please address the following issues and apply again.

Please ensure that your academic affiliation document contains your last name exactly as it appears in your GitHub billing information. If you have only a single legal name, enter it in both the first and last name fields of your GitHub billing information.
Your document does not appear to include a date demonstrating current academic affiliation. For countries utilizing non-standard calendars, you may need to capture the original document beside one with a converted date. You may include multiple documents in your image, so long as they are legible.
Please ensure that your academic affiliation document contains your first name exactly as it appears in your GitHub billing information. Variations of your name and nicknames are unacceptable.
You are unlikely to be verified until you have completed your GitHub user profile with your full name exactly as it appears in your academic affiliation document. Please do not use a variation of your name or a nickname. Once you have updated your profile information log out and log back into GitHub before re-applying

All of these things are present on the transcript. For some reason, whenever I click the capture button, the image is blurred (this does not happen in the camera app). I’m using an iPhone 16 Pro and Safari. This blurring also occurs with other types of verification like ID.

I took a photo of the transcript with my phone camera (although I censored personal details).

I think this may be a camera capture issue rather than a problem with your transcript. If the image becomes blurry only when using the GitHub verification page in Safari, the system may not be able to read your name and the date clearly.

I suggest trying these steps:

• Use Chrome on your iPhone instead of Safari.
• Try the verification process on a computer and upload a clear photo taken with your phone camera.
• Make sure the document is well-lit, flat, and fully visible.
• Avoid screenshots or heavily edited images.

Since the same blurring happens during ID verification, it sounds like a technical issue with the browser or the capture tool. I would mention that in your support request and ask GitHub to investigate the iPhone 16 Pro + Safari camera capture problem.

I tried using Chrome on my iPhone and the same thing happened. I also tried both Safari and Chrome on my Mac Mini, but neither of those were able to get my location.

The rejection message is actually telling you the exact fix — this one is about your billing information, not the transcript itself:

1. Go to https://github.com/settings/billing/payment_information
2. Fill in first name and last name so they match the transcript exactly — same spelling, same order. If you legally have a single name, put it in both the first and last name fields (that's the specific instruction from their message, and it's the detail most people miss).
3. Your GitHub profile display name should agree too, for good measure.
4. Then reapply with the same document — capturing it with the device camera, all critical text (name, school, date/term) large and legible in frame.

The automated check literally string-matches the last name from billing against the document, so a middle name on one but not the other, initials, or empty billing fields all fail it. The "unofficial transcript" part is usually fine as long as it shows your name, the institution, and a current term — the name match is what actually bounced you.

If it rejects again after the billing name is aligned, escalate via https://support.github.com/contact/education with your application ID rather than burning more attempts.

The billing name and address is matched exactly. I think the issue is that the image gets blurred. When I try to request help on that link, it just tells me to ask here.
