Hi everyone,

Hello GitHub Education Community,

I am a currently employed teacher at a public lower secondary school in Vietnam, and I am applying for GitHub Education as an educator.

I have submitted my application twice. My second application was not verified, and the GitHub Education Team asked me to make several changes before reapplying, including:

• using my full name consistently in my GitHub profile and billing information;
• verifying and using my school-issued email address; and
• using my device camera to submit my academic affiliation document.

I have completed these requested account changes, including verifying my school-issued email address.

Before submitting a third application, I would like to clarify whether a personnel record from VNEDU, the education management system used by my school, could be accepted as my teacher affiliation document.

The VNEDU personnel record shows information that establishes my current teaching affiliation, including my name, school, current employment status, current professional position as a lower-secondary teacher, and the 2026–2027 school year.

I previously submitted a screenshot of this electronic personnel record, but my application was not approved. The latest instructions specifically ask me to use my device camera to submit the affiliation document.

Could you please clarify the following?

1. Would a VNEDU electronic personnel record be acceptable as an affiliation document for an educator if I submit it using the device-camera verification process?

2. When GitHub says "use your device camera to submit academic affiliation documents," does this mean I may use my device camera to photograph the VNEDU personnel record displayed on my computer screen, or does the document need to be a physical document such as a teacher ID or employment verification letter?

3. The VNEDU personnel record contains additional personal and personnel information that is not necessary to establish my current teaching affiliation. May I cover or redact such information before submitting the document, while keeping my name, school, current employment status, teaching position, and current school year visible?

4. If a VNEDU personnel record is not acceptable, what type of document would you recommend for a teacher at a public lower secondary school in Vietnam?

I would like to make sure that I submit an appropriate document while avoiding unnecessary disclosure of personal or personnel information.

Hey, I’d be careful with submitting the full VNEDU personnel record if it contains information that isn’t necessary for verification.
From what you described, the important part should be proving your current affiliation with the school, so ideally the document should clearly show your name, the school name, your current teaching/employment status, and a recent date.

Since they specifically asked you to use the device camera, I’d follow that instruction rather than uploading another screenshot of VNEDU. If possible, an official teacher ID or a recent employment/affiliation letter from the school would probably be a cleaner option because it can provide the required information without exposing the rest of your personnel record.

I don’t think anyone here can guarantee whether VNEDU itself will be accepted though, since the final verification decision is made by GitHub Education.

A VNEDU personnel record can work, but it has two practical problems for this pipeline: it's a portal printout (screenshots and portal captures get flagged more often than photographed paper documents), and it's entirely in Vietnamese, which the automated review handles poorly. Since you're already on your third attempt, I'd stack the odds differently:

1. Ask your school for a giấy xác nhận công tác (employment confirmation letter) on school letterhead, signed and stamped by the principal, dated within the last couple of months. This is a routine request for any Vietnamese public school office, and a stamped paper letter photographed with your device camera (as they instructed) reads far better than a management-system printout. If the office can add one English line ("This certifies that [name] is currently employed as a teacher at [school]"), even better — bilingual documents pass much more smoothly than pure-Vietnamese ones.
2. Name consistency includes diacritics. If your GitHub profile says "Nguyen Van A" but the document says "Nguyễn Văn A" (or vice versa), the automated match can fail. Pick one form and make profile name, billing name, and the document agree exactly.
3. If you do submit the VNEDU record, photograph a printed copy rather than screenshotting the portal, and make sure your full name, the school name, and a recent date are all clearly legible in one frame.

If the third attempt still fails, escalate through the education-specific form at https://support.github.com/contact/education rather than reapplying a fourth time — repeated rapid applications themselves start counting against you.
