Hi everyone,

We represent IT Academi Step Georgia. We have sent a request to GitHub Education support to add @itstep.ge to GitHub Education's recognized academic institution/domain records. If our domain is successfully added to the academic institution/domain records, when our students fill out an application for educational benefits on GitHub, will they still need to scan their student ID card?

Once the institution and domain are recognized, students should be able to select their university when applying, and they may be able to verify their student status through their academic email instead of scanning their student ID. However, GitHub may still request additional documentation depending on the individual verification process.

Key Clarifications & Process Details

• Email Recognition vs. Mandatory Capture: Having an approved academic domain simplifies school selection during application, but it does not eliminate the document capture step. GitHub updated its verification security policies to require live photo evidence of current academic status for all applicants to prevent abuse.
• Required Documentation: Even with a recognized school email address, students will still be prompted to capture a clear image of proof demonstrating active enrollment (such as a dated student ID, current course schedule, or enrollment certificate).
• Location & Verification Requirements: To pass automated checks, students must apply while located physically near their institution (or with location services enabled on their device) and ensure their GitHub profile name matches their academic documents.
