Student Pack rejected due to name mismatch, billing info locked by trade controls #205529

Hey, that is a really frustrating catch-22. Because that billing error is usually tied to regional trade restrictions, GitHub locks down profile edits completely, leaving you unable to fix the name mismatch yourself. Since the automated system is blocked by that error, your only way forward is to contact GitHub Support directly. Open a support ticket: Go to GitHub Support and submit a ticket under the Education or Billing category. Explain the restriction: Let them know your account is locked due to government restrictions, which prevents you from changing your billing name to match your student ID. Provide your documents directly: Attach your valid student ID and enrollment certificate to the ticket so a human agent can manually verify your student status. Mention the Student Pack: Clarify that you only want access to the free GitHub Student Developer Pack benefits and aren't trying to perform any financial transactions. Support agents can usually override these blocks or handle the manual verification on their end once they see your documents. |

Hi everyone,
I'm a student trying to apply for the GitHub Student Developer Pack. My application was automatically rejected because the name on my student ID doesn't match the name in my GitHub billing information.
However, I cannot update my billing information because my account is locked with this error message:
"billing information is ineligible for transactions with GitHub due to government restrictions."
Because of this lock, I am unable to edit my billing profile to match my student ID. I am not trying to make any purchases — I only want the free Student Pack benefits.
I have a valid student ID and enrollment certificate. Is there any way to get manually verified for the Student Pack without editing the billing information? Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
