Hi everyone,

Dear GitHub Support Team,

I am writing to request assistance with freeing my academic email address so I can apply for the GitHub Student Developer Pack.

I recently lost access to my original GitHub account due to a Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) lockout. Because of this, I created a new GitHub account using my primary Gmail address. I am now trying to set up my developer benefits on this active account.

The issue is that my student email is still linked to the old, inaccessible account. To proceed with my application, I need to remove the student email from the old account and attach it to my new one.

Could you please guide me on the steps required to unlink my academic email from the locked account? I am happy to provide any necessary information to verify my identity and student status.

although i have connect my student mail to my my new github account, but still not eligable to connect to my student developer pact.

Unfortunately, this can be difficult to resolve if the student email is still associated with the old GitHub account.

I had a similar situation myself. I lost access to my old GitHub account because of a 2FA lockout and created a new account (zohaibcode740). My student email was later unlinked from the old account and connected to my new account, but I still could not become eligible for the GitHub Student Developer Pack.

I recommend contacting GitHub Support at [support@github.com](mailto:support@github.com) and also submitting a request through the official GitHub Support portal.

Please provide:

• Old GitHub username: Asifali8855
• New GitHub username: asifali8855-hub
• Academic email:
• Details about the 2FA lockout
• Proof that you own the academic email and are currently a student

Ask them specifically to check whether the old account is still associated with the Education verification and whether they can reset or transfer the Student Developer Pack eligibility to the new account.

Creating another GitHub account is unlikely to solve the issue.

This is the same situation as a deleted account from GitHub's backend perspective — your student email is tied to the old account (Asifali8855), and since you can't log into it, you can't unlink it yourself. That's a manual unlock that only GitHub Support can do.

The core issue: Student Developer Pack eligibility gets flagged on the account that was verified — so even though you've connected your student email to your new account (asifali8855-hub), the old account (Asifali8855) is the one that has the "this email is linked to verified Student Developer Pack" flag, and that's blocking your new account from being eligible. Unlinking and re-applying from your new account requires Support to clear that flag on the old account first.

Contact GitHub Support directly with:

• Your new account username: asifali8855-hub
• Your old account username: Asifali8855
• Your student email address
• Explanation that you lost 2FA access to the old account and created a new one
• Ask them to:
  1. Unlink your student email from the old account (Asifali8855)
  2. Clear any Student Developer Pack eligibility flag from the old account so your new account can apply fresh

Support will verify your identity (they might ask for student ID or enrollment verification, same as the initial Student Developer Pack application) before releasing the email. Once they do, your new account will be able to add the email and apply for Student Developer Pack normally.

This is the only path forward since the old account is locked and unreachable — don't spend time trying workarounds, just file the Support request with both account names.
