Hi everyone,

Hello, I’m Hyeonjeong Lee, a student from South Korea trying to apply for GitHub Education.
I’ve attempted the verification process about 20 times using different approaches, but my application continues to be rejected. I would really appreciate any guidance or help on this. );

Here is my current setup and what I’ve tried so far:

• My school email is already verified.
  

• In South Korea, family names are written first. My academic affiliation documents display my name in 'Last Name - First Name' order. However, my billing information is listed as 'First Name - Last Name,' which might create a mismatch between the two.

• The name on my billing information strictly matches the English spelling on my passport.

• I’ve tried uploading various official documents for my academic affiliation. All of these were rejected.

  • an English enrollment certificate dated today
  • my mobile student ID
  • my class schedule (timetable) for this semester
  • my tuition payment receipt
  

• The rejection feedback always uses a automated template, making it difficult to pinpoint the exact issue.

If anyone has experienced a similar issue or knows how to resolve this, please let me know.

Hi Hyeonjeong,

This is a common issue for Korean students since the verifier compares your billing name to the document literally. A few things that have worked for others:

Temporarily match your GitHub billing/profile name to your document's order (e.g., "Lee Hyeonjeong" instead of "Hyeonjeong Lee"). Reapply, then switch back once verified.
Remove commas/special characters from the name fields — just use a space between names.
Make sure the school's full name, your name, and a current date are all clearly visible in one image (logo alone isn't enough — combine enrollment cert + student ID if needed).
Log out and back in, or try a different device, before reapplying — the system can get stuck even after fixes.
If it still fails, open a support ticket (support.github.com → "Other") — billing support can manually verify names the automated form can't handle. Mention the Korean name-order mismatch and that you've tried 20 times.
