Hi everyone,

I have this Problem here We were unfortunately not able to verify your academic status. Please address the following issues and apply again.

Please ensure that your academic affiliation document contains your last name exactly as it appears in your GitHub billing information. If you have only a single legal name, enter it in both the first and last name fields of your GitHub billing information.

Visit our EDU community for FAQs and tips. The Problem ist though i have a German Student Idee where my Lastname IS shown First And after that comes my First Name. Could anybody Tell me how i can fix that

And Just so you know my Billing Info IS of course the Same AS ON my id

Hello @SniperJohnny,

The fact that your German student ID shows your last name first and your first name second should not normally be a problem. What GitHub is checking is that the last name on your academic document matches the last name in your GitHub billing information.

Here are a few things you could try:

1. Check Your GitHub Billing Information

Go to your GitHub billing settings and verify your name:

First name: Your first/given name
Last name: Your family/surname

The Last name field should match the surname shown on your student ID.

For example, if your German student ID shows:

MUSTERMANN Max

your GitHub billing information should normally be:

First name: Max
Last name: Mustermann

The order in which the name appears on the student ID does not necessarily mean that you should reverse the fields in GitHub.

2. Check the Exact Spelling

Make sure your surname is entered exactly as it appears on the academic document. Pay particular attention to:

Hyphens (Müller-Schmidt)
Multiple surnames
Spaces
Special characters/umlauts (ä, ö, ü, ß)
Any additional family names

Even a small difference may cause the automated verification to fail.

3. Make Sure the Document Is Clearly Readable

When submitting the application again, upload a clear photo or scan of your student ID. Make sure GitHub can clearly see:

Your full name
Your university/school
Your current student status
The relevant date or validity information, if available

4. If It Still Doesn't Work

If your name is already entered correctly in your GitHub billing information and the surname exactly matches your student ID, the problem may be with GitHub's automated verification.

In that case, I would recommend contacting GitHub Education Support and explaining that your German academic document displays the surname before the given name, while your GitHub billing information uses the standard first-name/last-name fields.

You can also mention that the surname itself is identical on both documents and ask them to manually review the application.
