Hi everyone,

Hello, my GitHub Education application continues to be rejected because of a first/last name mismatch.

My academic transcript shows Tyrell O Hullum.

My GitHub billing information is:
First name: Tyrell O
Last name: Hullum

My GitHub public profile also displays Tyrell O Hullum.

I have logged out and back in and reapplied, but I continue receiving the same rejection. Could someone please help determine why the verification system is not recognizing the matching information?

If the transcript, billing information, and GitHub profile all show the same name, then I wouldn't assume the rejection is actually caused by a simple spelling mismatch.

Your transcript does appear to show a current term and dates, so it also seems to provide the kind of dated enrollment evidence GitHub asks for. GitHub lists transcripts as acceptable proof of student status, provided the document clearly shows your current academic status and at least one date.

Since you've already logged out/in and reapplied without changing the result, I'd avoid repeatedly submitting the same document. I'd contact GitHub Education Support and explain that the name on the transcript matches the billing/profile information and that the transcript contains current-term dates. Include the rejection message and ask them to check why the automated verification is flagging the name.

I wouldn't change the name formatting again unless Support tells you that a particular field is being interpreted differently. GitHub's public documentation doesn't say that a middle initial or the ordering shown on an official transcript automatically causes a rejection.

If you do reapply, I'd use the clearest current enrollment document you have rather than modifying your personal information just to satisfy the automated check.
