For any repo, one can subscribe to events for: "Issues", "Pull Requests", "Releases", "Discussions", "Security alerts".

In many repos new versions are not published as "releases" but rather as "tags". In such cases it's impossible to know that new code was published.

Please allow us to subscribe to a "Tags" event?

GitHub provides an automatic, built-in Atom/RSS feed for Git tags on every public repository. You can plug this feed into any RSS reader to get notified whenever a new tag is pushed, even if the maintainers never create a GitHub Release.

Feed URL Structure:
https://github.com/{owner}/{repo}/tags.atom

Step-by-Step Setup in an RSS Reader

1. Get an RSS Reader: Install or sign up for an RSS aggregator (e.g., Feedly, NetNewsWire, Inoreader, Thunderbird, or NewsBlur).

2. Copy the Target URL: Replace {owner} and {repo} with the target project's details to build your .atom link:
   https://github.com/facebook/react/tags.atom

3. Add the Feed: Open your RSS reader, select Add Feed / Subscribe, paste the URL, and save.

4. Enable Notifications: Turn on desktop or mobile push notifications inside your RSS app settings for that feed.

Thanks for the workaround. But it requires the use of an extra tool. Exposing a "Tags" event is more convenient for most users.

Agreed. Many repos publish versions as tags instead of releases, so a Tags event would make tracking new versions much easier.
