Hi everyone,

My GitHub Education student status was approved on August 7, 2026, and the page says that benefits should become available within 72 hours (3 days) after approval.

It’s now September 7, 2026, but my account is still showing “Awaiting Benefits”, and I’m unable to access the Student Developer Pack offers or redeem Copilot.

I was wondering if anyone else is currently experiencing the same issue. Is this a known delay, and did your benefits eventually activate automatically, or did you have to contact GitHub Support?

Any advice or recent experience would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi @impramodkhatri — you're not alone, this is a fairly common issue with GitHub Education right now, not something wrong on your end.

The "72 hours" window GitHub quotes is often inaccurate in practice. Based on similar threads in this community, real activation delays commonly run anywhere from a few extra days to several weeks — and in a few documented cases it never resolves on its own because of a backend sync failure between the approval system and the benefits-activation system (i.e., your application shows "Approved," but the trigger that actually unlocks the pack/Copilot never fires). Since you're already a month past approval, this looks like that kind of stuck sync rather than normal processing time.

Things worth trying before escalating:

Check your status directly at education.github.com/discount_requests — it sometimes shows different info than the main Student Developer Pack page.
Try claiming Copilot separately at github.com/github-copilot/signup/copilot_individual_signup — this occasionally activates even when the main pack page is still stuck.
Full logout/login (browser + incognito + mobile app) and clear cache — low odds, but rules out a caching glitch.

If none of that works (likely, given it's been a month):
Don't keep waiting — open a ticket directly with GitHub Support at support.github.com, under the "verified student but can't access benefits" category. Community posts here don't get official staff responses; only actual support tickets do. In the ticket, include:

GitHub username
Application type (student)
Approval date (Aug 7, 2026)
Current status ("Awaiting Benefits")
What you've already tried (the steps above)

If the first ticket gets an automated non-answer, reply to it referencing the ticket number rather than opening a new one — several people in similar threads only got it resolved after a second follow-up on the same ticket.

If your GitHub Education status was approved on August 7 but you're still seeing “Awaiting Benefits” a month later, that's well beyond the 72-hour timeframe mentioned on the Education page.

Since the verification itself is already approved, I would avoid submitting another Education application. Instead, check your GitHub Education benefits/status page while signed into the same account and, if it still shows “Awaiting Benefits,” contact GitHub Support with your approval date and a screenshot of the current status.

Also make sure you're checking the benefits from the same GitHub account that was approved for the Student Developer Pack.

At this point, if the status has remained unchanged for a month, it likely needs GitHub to check the account/benefit activation on their side rather than more local browser troubleshooting.
