Hi everyone,

I'm homeschooled and have 3 siblings homeschooling as well. My application was denied, and I think it might be due to their names being redacted on the paper by my mom's request. Can anyone help?

Homeschool students are explicitly eligible for GitHub Education, but the document still needs to establish your current academic status. Redacting your siblings' names should not prevent verification if their information is unrelated, but the remaining image must be internally understandable and must not look altered around the fields that identify you, the homeschool program, and the current date.

For a cleaner reapplication, use a document focused on you rather than a multi-student family notice. GitHub lists a current class schedule, transcript, or affiliation/enrollment verification letter as acceptable examples. For a homeschool application, the strongest packet is usually an official Notice of Intent or enrollment letter that clearly shows:

• your full legal name matching the GitHub profile;
• the homeschool/program or responsible authority;
• the current academic year or a current date;
• a signature, letterhead, stamp, or filing reference where applicable.

If sibling names must remain private, ask the issuer for an individual letter or redact only their names—do not redact headings, dates, signatures, authority details, or page context. Use a new clear image when reapplying. Do not post the document or any minors' personal information in this public discussion.

Update: It appears my Notice of Intent is unreadable by OCR, and I'm afraid using an AI tool to sharpen the text will make the people who check applications think I AI-generated it.
