A lightweight, opt-in role marker could help with context, but it should not be treated as proof that a reply is valid. A badge such as organization member or maintainer, with clear scope and an accessible tooltip, would be safer than exposing a broad “owner” label. It would also be useful to distinguish GitHub-verified roles from self-described profile metadata, while keeping organizations able to control whether membership is visible.

At present, GitHub Discussions does not display contributor/owner/member badges inline with posts. The only way to verify someone’s role is by checking their profile or organization membership manually.

A practical workaround is to:
• Click on the participant’s profile to confirm if they are part of the organization.
• Use organization membership badges (visible on profiles) as a trust signal.

That said, your suggestion is valid as a feature request. Adding verified role markers (Contributor, Owner, Member) directly in Discussions would improve clarity and reduce confusion. It would also align with how GitHub already shows “Member” or “Owner” tags in Issues and Pull Requests.

I recommend submitting this through GitHub’s official Feedback form (github.com in Bing) so the product team can track it.

Until GitHub implements this, the best practice is to rely on profile metadata and org membership badges.
