Hi GitHub Community,

I’m hoping someone can help me understand what happened to my account.

A few moments ago, I tried to sponsor one of the projects on GitHub. The sponsorship initially showed as successful, but just a few seconds later, my account was suddenly marked as suspended.

Afterwards, I realized that the credit card linked to my account had expired about a month ago. I’m guessing this could be related to the sponsorship/payment, but I’m not sure.

This is my 3–4 year old GitHub account, and it contains almost all of my development work, repositories, contributions, PRs, and other important stuff. I really need access to it as soon as possible.

I’m completely willing to update my payment information and resolve any billing/payment issue if that’s what caused this.

If anyone from GitHub Support sees this, please review my account and remove the suspension if possible. This is quite urgent for me.

Hey Anukar, sorry to hear that man. Losing access to a 3–4 year old GitHub account with all your projects and contributions is really stressful!!

Since the suspension happened right after the sponsorship, I’d suggest contacting GitHub Support directly and explaining exactly what happened. Also mention the expired card and that you’re ready to update the payment details if that’s related

Share any specified email id or something, which lead me to contact github support directly (as the account is suspended so, i can't able to login it for support ticket creation)

Try to send an email directly to GitHub Support

Since you cannot log in, send an email to [support@github.com](mailto:support@github.com) from the email address registered to the account. You can write something like this:

• Suspended username: @AnukarOP
• Account email: (the email registered to the account)
• Explanation: You tried to sponsor a project, the donation appeared to be successful, and a few seconds later the account was suspended
• Mention that the card was expired and that you are ready to update the payment details
• Ask them to review the account and remove the suspension
