Contributors graph still shows old contributors after rewriting commit history

Hello GitHub Support,

I’m having an issue with the Contributors graph for my repository:

The repository currently shows 3 contributors, but some of those contributor entries were created because I accidentally made commits using a different Git identity/account.

I have already rewritten the relevant commit history and corrected the author information so that the commits are associated with my intended GitHub account.

I also removed the old branches and force-updated the repository history where necessary.

However, the Contributors graph still shows 3 contributors even though the old author information should no longer exist in the current reachable commit history.

Could you please check whether the Contributors statistics for this repository are cached or stale, and refresh/rebuild the contributor statistics if possible?

Same issue here — the contributors graph for
https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/209621 still shows 4 contributors
(github-actions[bot], devin-ai-integration[bot], lennyprsnt) even though
the commits involved were removed by force-pushes. The REST API
endpoint /contributors correctly returns only "fjjjuv".

It's been stale for about a month, and my free-plan support ticket was
auto-closed pointing to self-service resources. A way to trigger a
contributors-graph recalculation would be great.

Thank you for reporting this bug. We've been logging these posts and are currently investigating solutions. We will share updates as soon as work begins and we have a better sense of when it will ship.

In the meantime, we did publish a troubleshooting guide for folks who may have missing contributions if you haven't taken the steps outlined in this doc, I recommend doing those first as there is a member-generated workaround that has had some success.
